Chairboys open doors to stoppers

Wycombe have launched a pioneering initiative to give a budding young goalkeeper the chance to win a three-month trial at the club.

Wanderers will hold open trials at the training ground on the afternoon of October 23, when 10 people will be chosen for a six-month coaching programme with training sessions, educational activities and workshops led by professional goalkeepers. At the end of the course, one youngster, who must be aged between 16 and 21, will join the first-team squad in a bid to win a professional contract. "So many young goalkeepers fall out of the game because they are not given the opportunity to develop," said Wycombe goalkeeping coach Martin Brennan. "We want to change that by giving them a chance to receive professional coaching and prove they've got what it takes to succeed in the game."
