Rochdale boss Steve Eyre said hard work in training was behind their back-to-back victories after beating Scunthorpe 1-0.
Jason Kennedy's second-half strike in a scrappy contest at Spotland secured Dale a second successive win to lift them out of the bottom four.
"The clean sheet was the key to victory," said Eyre. "We've been having conversations for the last month about the importance of not conceding goals.
"Even though Scunthorpe had lots of possession and we were forced to play deep at times, I felt we defended well and looked comfortable in our own penalty area. That was down to the fact we have trained so well.
"We were disappointed not to score one of the chances which came our way in the first half and we said at half-time we felt it could be a 1-0 scoreline and so it proved to be."
