That's my boy, beams Allen

Notts County manager Martin Allen believes his son Charlie has a bright future at the League One club.

After joining the Magpies from Dagenham on a one-year deal in the summer, the 19-year-old midfielder made an impressive Football League debut in the 2-0 defeat at Preston on Saturday. "I'm so proud of him. I thought he was absolutely superb," said Allen. "He can still improve a lot but it was only last winter he was working on a building site. He came back from playing in Sweden and found it difficult to get a club until Dagenham gave him a chance so he was working 12 hours a day in the freezing cold. "It's his own determination, guts, character and drive that has got him to where he is now. His name is a problem for him and I suppose for me but he deserved his chance because he was outstanding in the reserves. "I've had a hunch about him for a while that he was going to get bigger and stronger and that with his work ethic he was going to be a player. "He needs to find more quality with his final pass and his finishing needs to get better, but when you have the athleticism and energy to break through defences and out-run other midfield players like he has you are potentially worth a huge amount of money and can go up to play at a higher level."
