Tranmere boss Les Parry is hoping a period of rest will allow Mark McChrystal to be passed fit to face Brentford on Saturday.
The defender came off injured in the Carling Cup tie at Doncaster two weeks ago and while he has played in all three matches since, he remains troubled by the complaint.
Parry told Tranmere Player: "We're going to pull Mark McChrystal out of training this week because he's still struggling with the groin problem that he came off against Doncaster with.
"We'll make use of the free week and he won't train until Thursday."
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Andy Coughlin could return to the squad against the Bees this weekend and Parry added: "Andy is coming on okay. He won't play on Wednesday [in the reserves] but he may well be available to travel on Friday.
"We tried to bring him back and all it did was aggravate it and put him back so we've decided to wait until it's right."
