Spireites close to Mendy deal

Chesterfield are set to complete the signing of French winger Alex Mendy by the coming weekend.

The 27-year-old has been on trial with the League Two champions since last week and manager John Sheridan hopes to push the deal through in time for Mendy, who recently had a trial at Leeds, to be involved against MK Dons on Saturday. However, receiving international clearance is posing a problem for the Spireites. "Mendy is a big lad who will give us balance," said Sheridan. "He's done well at Leeds and has been playing in the Czech Premier League for the last five years. "If everything goes through, Mendy will be involved on Saturday." The versatile Mendy, who can also play as an attacking central midfield player or a forward, was born in Paris and began his career at Versailles. Since 2007 he has been with Czech team Mlada Boleslav where he made 136 appearances and helped them with the cup last season.
