Defender Paul Reid has urged Scunthorpe to show their true quality when they kick-off their campaign at Wycombe on Saturday.
The Iron were thumped 5-0 in their final pre-season fixture with Barnsley at Glanford Park and looked anything but promotion challengers.
Yet Reid has backed his side to shrug off that display by producing the goods when it matters most.
He said: "When we got relegated the least I expected was to be near the top and pushing for a return.
"Ultimately we're judged on our league performances and if we go to Wycombe and get a result then that [Barnsley] game won't be remembered at all."
