Scunthorpe's Michael Nelson has urged his team-mates to bounce back from their crushing 5-0 pre-season defeat to Barnsley.
The Irons conceded five first-half goals in their final warm-up game prior to starting their league campaign with a trip to Wycombe.
"We can't sit here and say we didn't deserve to get beaten by five because we did," Nelson told the club's official website.
"It is pre-season. You can't just sweep it under the carpet, you have to learn from it.
"It would have been a lot worse had it been a league game, but we've got to be realistic and learn from it, and take it into the next game.
"We're playing Wycombe and that's that. I've been involved in teams who went out and got beat in every pre-season game and have ultimately done well.
"You can't predict the future. We're hoping to win the league, get promoted and do as well as we can."
