Former Rotherham winger keen to earn deal with Scunthorpe

Former Rotherham winger Stephen Brogan hopes that joining a new club this summer will give his career a kick-start. The 23-year-old's career has stalled in recent years after a series of serious injuries, which ultimately saw him leave his hometown club at the end of last season. However, Brogan, who can operate in a variety of positions, is currently on trial with League One outfit Scunthorpe and told skysports.com that he is desperate to play regular football again this season. "I need to give my career a kick-start really because I'm 23 now and I haven't played a great amount of football in the past few seasons. "A serious leg injury and then not getting on too well with Ronnie Moore when I returned did hamper me during that period, but I need to get back playing regularly. "If that is at Scunthorpe then great, but if not then hopefully this spell will get my name mentioned again in football circles and I can play elsewhere.

Opening doors

"I just need to make sure that wherever I am playing I get the chance to play regularly again because it has been a frustrating couple of years for me. "I hadn't played a great deal, so interest was bound to be slow because a lot of managers tend to forget about you unless you've worked with them before. "If things don't work out for me here at Scunthorpe then hopefully it will at least open a few doors for me elsewhere instead." The Iron are preparing for life in League One this summer after falling through the Championship trapdoor last season, but Brogan is confident that they can be serious promotion contenders this year. He said: "There are some great players here and the mood in the camp is very good, so I don't see any reason why they can't be pushing for a return to the Championship next season."
