Bury boss Richie Barker hopes to "draw a line" under talk linking Ryan Lowe with a move to Stockport.
Last season's League Two Player of the Year has been the subject of interest from the non-league Hatters after former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann took over as boss at Edgeley Park.
Barker wants to keep Lowe at Gigg Lane but admits transfer rumours are something all clubs have to expect during the summer.
"I've been saying to Ryan for quite a while that I'd like to draw a line under it and move on," he said after Friday night's 4-1 pre-season defeat to Everton.
"I've enjoyed working with him and hopefully he'll want to play for me.
"I turn up to work in the morning and sometimes there's a fax on my desk from somebody else and sometimes there isn't so I suppose the one positive is it means I've got good players if other people want to buy them."
