Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill says forward Garry Thompson has had no problem meeting the demands of the club's pre-season training.
The 30-year-old only started four games last season after two operations on his groin forced him to miss the majority of the campaign.
"We have to be careful with him but he's come in and done everything that everybody else has done," Knill told the club's official website. "He looks strong and powerful.
"Garry is the sort of person who wants to go and do everything. But we don't want it to be a case of too much too soon, so we'll keep an eye on him.
"We've told him that he knows his body better than anybody else. If he needs a rest he needs a rest, just come and tell us. We know he's an honest lad - just come and tell us and we'll work around that."
