Colgan pens contract extension

Huddersfield goalkeeper Nick Colgan has signed a one-year contract extension at the Galpharm Stadium.

The 37-year-old was offered fresh terms at the end of last season and has now put pen to paper. He will compete with Alex Smithies and Ian Bennett for Town's number one jersey next season as Lee Clark aims to guide the Terriers to promotion from League One. "I take it as a real compliment and a feather in my cap that the manager has asked me to stay," Colgan told the club's official website. "I did have a couple of other offers on the table - one to go somewhere as a player/coach and another simply as a coach - but I've taken advice from several people and they all told me that you are a long time retired in football, so I want to carry on playing. "I want to be a part of the club's plans moving forward, and I believe even at my age it is possible. "If there is any way I can enhance the club's goalkeeping situation during the 2011/12 season, I will be delighted."
