Carlisle manager Greg Abbott will step up attempts to bolster his squad next week ahead of the new League One season.
Abbott is set to begin negotiations with four transfer targets when he returns from a coaching trip in St Lucia and is hopeful of completing his first summer signing next week.
"It is going to be a big week and I will probably be meeting four players," he told the News & Star.
"I've had some more encouraging phone calls and I know that two of these players really want to come. We have got to compete with other deals they might be offered but I am very optimistic that by the end of next week we will have at least one player in - or at least agreed everything in principle."
Meanwhile, Abbott is interested in signing Shefki Kuqi following his release by Newcastle but only if the striker lowers his wage demands.
"There is no question that Shefki's ability would make him a fantastic addition. But it would depend on whether we could afford him," he added.
