Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of striker Matt Smith from non-league side Solihull Moors.
The 6ft 6in 21-year-old, who has scored 23 goals in 27 appearances in the Blue Square Bet North league this season with Redditch United, Droylsden and then Solihull, has signed a two-year deal.
Smith said: "I'm not pretending there isn't a big gap, but it's up to me to work hard and if I do I'm confident I can make the step up.
"A lot of the players in Blue Square Bet North are towards the end of their careers and playing against older lads helped toughen me up."
Smith's father Ian was a striker with Queen's Park, Queen of the South and Hearts and grandfather Jimmy was also a forward for Clyde and St Mirren in the 1930s.
