Rochdale boss Keith Hill has released defenders Matt Flynn and Robbie Williams and goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams.
Skipper Gary Jones and midfielder Matty Done, who are out of contract in the summer, have been offered new deals while Will Atkinson and Josh Thompson have returned to their parent clubs.
Hill is keen to bolster his squad with new signings during the summer, with a replacement for West Brom-bound Craig Dawson the priority.
He said: "The hunt is on for new faces but at this time of year it is very difficult because every player or agent you speak to wants top drawer money and it is tough to get those players without paying a kings ransom.
"We have to find the ground between the type of player we want and the affordability of that player.
"It is going to be very difficult to replace Craig Dawson and that is our major headache."
