Watford have awarded Dale Bennett a new contract at Vicarage Road until the summer of 2013.

Youngster happy at multi-year contract

Watford have awarded Dale Bennett a new contract at Vicarage Road until the summer of 2013. The 21-year-old has been on the fringe of the Hornet's first team since making the transition from the club's academy. The contract shows the potential the Championship side believe Bennett possesses, despite the defender making just eight league appearances this term. Bennett will look to reward the faith shown in him by manager Malky Mackay as he bids to enter his first-team plans next season. "I've been here since I was 14 and the professional contracts I've had so far have been for a year, so to know that I'll be here for a further two years after this summer is very pleasing," he said.

Rewarded

"I know that what I've done since I've been here has been noted and to be rewarded with a new contract is a boost. "I now have to push on and work hard during pre-season - this is a tme of rest over the summer but I'll be in the gym and I'll still be doing my running because I know I have to come back fitter and stronger. "I think the coaches know what I'm about. I've been in and around the squad for a while now and I hope people feel I can do a job when I am needed. "It feels like I've been rewarded and I'm looking forward to next season and hopefully many more."
