Walsall welcome Williams coup

Walsall manager Dean Smith has strengthened his ranks by signing Tom Williams on a deal until the end of the season.

The well-travelled 30-year-old, who plays on the left side of defence or midfield, was a free agent having been released by Bristol City in January. Williams will be in contention to make his Saddlers debut against Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday night, subject to clearance. Manager Dean Smith said: "Tom will bring the experience that we need. He has over 300 senior games under his belt and is able to play in a number of different positions. "He's got the qualities that we need and knows this level well. He is a winner and already knows some of the lads here, so that will help him settle in." Williams added: "I don't have a relegation on my CV at the minute and don't intend to add one here. It's a challenge that I am looking forward to. My only aim is to make sure that I can help Walsall stay in League One."
