Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jamie Smith has been ruled out for eight weeks with a fractured metatarsal.
The 21-year-old collided with team-mate Jake Caskey in training on Monday and an X-ray has confirmed the extent of the injury.
Smith, who joined the Seagulls in August, will be out of contract at the end of the season but boss Gus Poyet said: "I have already had a good chat with him, I told him not to worry and that we will look after him.
"He will be out until March but it is important he doesn't feel under pressure to rush back because of his contract situation.
"I want him to make sure his foot is properly healed first, and then I expect we will see him back to fitness before the end of the season."
