Striker makes Cumbrians exit

Carlisle United's out-of-favour striker Richard Offiong has left the League One club by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old, who started his career at Newcastle, joined the Cumbrians from Hamilton in August 2009 but was hampered by illness and injury during his stay at Brunton Park, making only 15 appearances and scoring once. He failed to feature this season for United and spent a month on loan at Darlington at the start of the season. Carlisle boss Greg Abbott told the club's official website: "I think both myself and Richard are disappointed with the way things have gone. It didn't go the way we wanted to and so we had a good chat and he is now able to move on with our very best wishes." Managing director John Nixon added: "It's a deal that hasn't worked out, and it is in the best financial interests of the club to take this course of action. "We understand from his agent that Richard may be leaving the sport to pursue another career path and we genuinely wish him all the very best with whichever route he decides to take."
