Milton Keynes Dons midfielder Mark Carrington admits he is enjoying his current run in the first team and hopes to keep his place after a mixed start to his season.
The former Crewe Alexandra youngster has played the last three games in the centre of the Dons' midfield, a run that has coincided with the team's best spell of the season.
A win at Brentford at the weekend lifted MK Dons up to seventh in League One and Carrington aims to fend off the competition for a spot in Karl Robinson's midfield.
Carrington told
skysports.com: "Earlier in the season I was in and out of the team unable to hold down my place, but now I've played the last three games I hope to stay a permanent fixture in what is a competitive midfield for as long as possible."
Laidback
The 23-year-old joined MK Dons in the summer of 2009 when Paul Ince invited Carrington for a week's trial after he was surprisingly released by Crewe.
Robinson replaced Ince as manager in the summer and Carrington sees similarities between both men.
He added: "They have similar traits, both are fairly laidback and like us to get the ball down and play football with freedom.
"That's what we've been doing recently and we're picking up the right results, so it would be good to keep this run going and push for an automatic promotion place."
The Dons face an away trip to Stevenage in an FA Cup first round replay on Tuesday and, if they beat the League Two club, they could face AFC Wimbledon in the second round.
But Carrington shrugged off the growing possibility of a game that would grab widespread national attention, commenting: "We've a tough and physical game at Stevenage to play before we start to think of the possibilities of meeting Wimbledon."
