Winger offered contract after impressing on trial

Rangers boss Walter Smith has confirmed he is hoping to sign Salim Kerkar after the winger impressed on trial. Kerkar has been training with the Gers for the past month after spending the past few seasons in France with Gueugnon. The Algerian has done enough to warrant a contract with the SPL champions and is set to link up with his compatriot Madjid Bougherra at Ibrox. Smith said: "He has been with us for about a month. Martin Bain will speak to his agents and I hope we manage to get him. "He will be a good addition to our pool if we can reach agreement." Kerkar said: "Unless there's a huge last minute change I will be signing for Rangers. "Madjid is like a brother to me and it's thanks to him this is happening. I dream of doing what he's done."
