Hartlepool United have snapped up Evan Horwood on a free transfer after the defender impressed on trial.
Horwood was released by Carlisle United at the end of last season and had previously expressed a wish to join his home-town club.
The left-back also held talks with Aberdeen, but has now opted to commit his future to Chris Turner's League One side.
"He's still relatively young, but has good experience having played quite a number of games in the Football League already," Turner told the club's official website.
"He has shown a great appetite for the game during his trial spell with us and has added some real attacking presence down the left-hand side.
"His deliveries from set-pieces have been excellent and we really could have scored more goals during pre-season on the back of that.
"We're delighted that he's agreed to sign for the club and I feel he deserved this chance to prove himself with his home-town team."
