Full-back quits trial at Crewe to play in Saddlers' friendly

Chris Stokes has quit his trial spell at Crewe Alexandra in order to take up a similar opportunity at Walsall. Former Bolton left-back Stokes, who had a loan spell at Crewe last season, has been training with the League Two club in recent weeks. However, he opted to part with the Railwaymen prior to Tuesday's friendly against West Brom and turned out for Walsall against Wolves the same evening. "It was Chris who decided to go to Walsall and he played for them," said Crewe boss Dario Gradi in The Sentinel. Danny Blanchett is continuing to train with Crewe in the hope of winning a contract as Gradi steps up his quest to bring in a new left-back. He added: "I quite like Danny, but we do have some other possibilities."
