Carlisle defender Danny Livesey faces up to eight weeks on the sidelines after picking up a groin injury.
The 25-year-old centre-back sustained the problem in training on Monday and will now see a consultant early next week to learn the full extent of the injury.
Livesey, who signed a two-year deal earlier in the summer, was absent for the back end of last term with a pelvic injury.
He now looks likely to miss the start of the new season, with Carlisle starting their League One campaign at home to Brentford on 7th August.
Without Livesey, Carlisle opened their pre-season schedule with a comfortable 4-1 win over Kendal Town on Friday night.
Boss Greg Abbott chose to field completely different sides in either half and he picked new signings Sean McDaid, Craig Curran and James Berrett in the first period, while Sean McDaid and Jason Price played in the second half.
And goals from Gary Madine, Curran, trialist Francis Zoko and Price put their Northern Premier League opponents to the sword at Lakeland Radio Stadium.
