Krystian Pearce has been invited for a trial with Notts County and will get the chance to shine on their pre-season trip to Austria.
The 20-year-old defender, who has had a loan spell at Meadow Lane in the past, is available on a free transfer after leaving Huddersfield.
"The fans know him anyway - he came here as a 17-year-old and impressed and he's impressed me so far," said manager Craig Short.
"He's still only 20 and he's got a lot to learn but hopefully he can show me in Austria what he's capable of."
Pearce started his career as a trainee at Birmingham and had loan spells at County, Port Vale, Scunthorpe, Peterborough and Huddersfield.
The Terriers took over his contract from Birmingham in January but released him earlier this month.
