Aussie defender heading back Down Under with Melbourne

Defender Dean Heffernan is to leave Huddersfield after agreeing a three-year deal with Melbourne Heart. Australia international Heffernan arrived at the Galpharm Stadium from Central Coast Mariners in January. But he will fly back Down Under next week after making 15 appearances for Lee Clark's side. The 30-year-old had hoped to boost both his own World Cup final hopes with Australia and the Terriers' promotion bid. But the left-back has been overlooked by Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek, who named a provisional 31-man squad last week, while Town lost out to Millwall in the play-offs. Heffernan, capped twice by Australia, spent almost two years with German side Nuremberg from 2006.
