Chris O'Grady has spoken of his desire to extend his loan spell at League Two promotion-chasers Rochdale beyond the terms of the existing arrangement.
The 23-year-old forward has scored eight goals since joining Dale on loan until January at the start of the season.
Keith Hill's side are in prime position to end their 35-year stay in the bottom division and O'Grady insists their best players must not be sold next month.
He said: "Hopefully, the club can resist the urge to sell and I can extend my stay here."
Meanwhile, Oldham have been rocked with the news defender Andy Holdsworth needs surgery and could miss the rest of the season.
The versatile performer, who moved to Oldham from Huddersfield over the summer, has been struggling with tendonitis behind a knee cap.
Having failed to respond to treatment on the injury it has now been decided he needs to go under the knife. Only when the surgeon has had a closer look will they be able ascertain the period of recuperation required.
