Defender facing spell on sidelines with knee injury

Kilmarnock fear defender Simon Ford could be facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines because of a worrying knee injury. Ford has been playing through the pain barrier this term but has been forced to undergo an exploratory operation to find the cause of the problem. The SPL club are now awaiting further information from the surgeon before discovering how long the English stopper will be out for, with a two-month lay-off reported to be on the cards. Assistant manager Billy Brown said: "Simon has been struggling for a while now and couldn't put off the operation any longer. "He has gone into hospital in a bid to find out just how bad the damage is. "It's a big blow for us - he's an influential player."
