Left-sided player seals switch away from Cobblers

Danny Jackman has returned to old side Gillingham after two seasons with Northampton. The left-sided player asked to leave the Cobblers following the club's relegation to League Two and has signed for the Gills for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old previously spent two seasons at Priestfield before joining Northampton on a free transfer in May 2007. He could now make his second Gills debut in Tuesday night's Carling Cup second round tie against Blackburn.

Good signing

Gills boss Mark Stimson told the club's official website: "Danny will be a really good signing for us as I know he did well at the club before and the supporters appreciated his work ethic. "Whenever he has played against a team of mine he has always stood out and as a natural left-footer I believe Danny will bring good balance to the midfield." Northampton chairman David Cardoza added: "The money that has come in will allow Stuart (Gray) to strengthen the squad. "It is a shame that Danny has moved on in this way because he deservedly won the player of the year award for two years in succession but it was clear - with what has happened in the last few weeks - that his time here was at an end."
