Veteran keeper hoping to earn permanent deal

Derby County have handed a trial to experienced goalkeeper Jimmy Walker. The 36-year-old has been training with the Championship club in the hope of landing a permanent deal. Should he convince the Rams' coaching staff that he is deserving of a contract, he would be brought in to provide cover for first-choice Stephen Bywater. Walker is currently without a club after being released by West Ham at the end of last season. The veteran shot-stopper began his career at Walsall and made over 400 appearances for the Saddlers before moving to Upton Park in 2004. He enjoyed initial success with the Hammers, but slipped down the pecking order after struggling with injuries. He enjoyed a spell on loan at League One outfit Colchester United during the 2008/09 campaign.
