Preston manager Alan Irvine has denied that he is tracking former Manchester City midfielder Dietmar Hamann.
The German is a free agent after his contract at Eastlands expired this summer and he is searching for a new club before the start of the season.
Hull City have been credited with an interest in Hamann as they look for experience to avoid a repeat of last term's narrow escape from Premier League relegation.
Irvine, though, insists that Preston are not actively pursuing the ex-Liverpool star as they prepare for another attempt at winning promotion from the Championship.
"We are linked with a number of players. We were linked with Didi Hamann and that was quite simply a phone call from an agent," Irvine told Preston's official website.
