Tranmere Rovers have been boosted by the news that Charlie Barnett has signed a new one-year contract.

The 20-year-old had been out of contract, but will now be staying at Prenton Park, as revealed by skysports.com earlier on Friday.

Rovers' new manager John Barnes is pleased to have retained the youngster, who was the club's young player of the year last season, after being impressed by him in pre-season.

Talented

"Charlie is a talented young midfielder and I'm delighted he will be in my squad this season," Barnes told the club's official website.

"He has good technique, is willing to learn and I've been pleased with his work in pre-season."

Barnett added: "I really enjoyed my first year at Tranmere so I'm pleased to have signed a new contract.

"With the new manager and the signings he has already made hopefully we can do even better than last season."
