Scottish defender returns to train with former club

Will Haining is back training with former club Oldham Athletic as he looks to secure a move back to England. Skysports.com understands the experienced central defender, who made 155 appearances for the Latics between 2001 and 2007, has pitched up at Boundary Park having left St Mirren. Haining moved to Love Street when his contract at Boundary Park expired in 2007 and enjoyed two solid seasons in the SPL. Latics boss Dave Penney has confirmed he is in the market for a central defender and has welcomed Haining to train with his side. Glasgow-born Haining, who has captained Oldham in the past, turned down a new deal at St Mirren as he plans to continue his career back in England. Haining remains a popular figure in the North West but it remains to be seen if he is offered a deal to rejoin Oldham, the club with which he started his career.
