Danny Senda is hopeful he can earn a new contract at Millwall if he proves his fitness over the summer.
The defender has not played for 12 months after suffering a dislocated kneecap on the final day of the 2007/08 season.
He was on a list of 10 players not to be retained by Millwall boss Kenny Jackett following the club's League One play-off final defeat by Scunthorpe United.
However, Senda is not giving up on his career at The Den and says he can join in with pre-season training in order to prove his fitness.
"I have had a one-to-one talk with the gaffer, who basically said if I can walk back into the football club fit and ready to go for the new season - then we will work something out," Senda told the Southwark News.
"I am grateful that I have got the opportunity to come back in after the summer and, if I am fit, I know I am good enough at this level and have a shout of getting back in to the set-up here."
