Dave Penney has raided his former club Darlington and made Rob Purdie his first signing as Oldham boss.
The 26-year-old utility man successful completed a medical at Boundary Park on Friday and has put pen to paper on a two-year contract.
Purdie was used in just about every outfield position by Penney during their days together at Darlington and his versatility will be welcomed by the Latics.
He began his career with hometown club Leicester, but failed to make an impact with the Foxes and moved on to Hereford in 2002.
He spent five years at Edgar Street and helped the Bulls claim promotion back into the Football League at the end of the 2005/06 campaign.
Purdie quickly caught the eye upon his arrival in League Two and Darlington swooped for his services in 2007.
Two successful seasons in the North East followed, but he has now decided to take on a new challenge at Oldham.
