Crewe Alexandra boss Gudjon Thordarson will allow Michael O'Connor to leave if they receive a suitable offer.
The Northern Ireland international has recently returned from a five-month loan spell at Lincoln City after failing to establish himself in the Icelandic tactician's first team.
SPL side Hibernian have made the first move and they currently have Crewe's academy graduate on trial with them.
"Hibs asked if Michael could go up there to train with them and I was fine with that," the Alex boss told his club's official website.
"If they wanted to have a look at him in relation to making an offer for him in the summer then I'm pleased for him to do that.
"He went up there last week for a few days for them to consider their options and we'll have to see what happens."
