Hutchings keen to keep Adkins, Westlake and Grigg

Walsall have offered professional contracts to three of their most promising youngsters. Sam Adkins, Darryl Westlake and Will Grigg are all tipped for big things in the future and the Saddlers are understandably keen to keep them at The Banks's Stadium. Adkins is a talented midfielder who has broken into the first-team fold this season, making his debut during a 1-0 defeat to Peterborough in January. Westlake is a promising full-back with attacking instincts, while Grigg is a striker with a keen eye for goal which has already seen him become a regular goal-getter at reserve level. The teenage trio have all been offered one-year deals with the option of a 12-month extension. Manager Chris Hutchings said: "We've had them train with the first team in recent weeks and they have stood up well, which is a testament to the work that Mick Halsall has done in moving them in the right direction. "Not all our youngsters can be offered professional contracts. We have had to make some tough decisions and will be giving the lads who were released every assistance to find new clubs." Head of youth Halsall added: "There is a lot of hard work and commitment ahead. I would like to think that they've learnt with us and we've given them a grounding, but now I can't stress enough how difficult the road ahead is going to be for them."
