Promising keeper extends London Road stay

James McKeown has signed a contract extension with Peterborough which will keep him at the club until 2011. The Republic of Ireland youth international was set to see his current deal expire in the summer. However, his progression in becoming a valuable first-team squad member has seen Posh move quickly to secure his services. He has become the regular back-up to first-choice keeper Joe Lewis and is tipped to have a promising future at London Road. "I am obviously very pleased to sign this deal with Peterborough United and the two-and-a-half years gives me the security I was looking for," the 19-year-old told the club's official website. "I was due to be out of contract in the summer, so I am relieved everything has been sorted out. "I am enjoying my football at Peterborough United, the training is very good and I am learning all the time. "It's an exciting time to be at this football club, the management are very good and the players want to be successful." McKeown joined Peterborough from Walsall in 2007, but started his career in the academy ranks at Coventry.
