On-loan defender suffers fractured cheekbone

Crewe defender Dennis Lawrence is facing at least a month on the sidelines after suffering a fractured cheekbone. The Trinidad and Tobago international, who is on loan with the Railwaymen from Swansea, sustained the injury during Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Yeovil. Lawrence failed to emerge for the second period of the match and now needs at least four weeks on the sidelines before being considered for selection again. The win over Yeovil lifted Gudjon Thordarsson's side to within two points of a position of safety and the former Stoke boss is confident they can beat the drop on the back of a run of impressive home form. He said: "This is our fourth win on the trot at home and the players have given themselves a great chance of staying up. "Not many people would have believed that would have happened at the beginning of January and that is a big credit to my players. "We have a very tight schedule at the moment and you could see some of our players are tired but they kept going and that is the priority. It is important at this stage that we don't ease off."
