Defender set to reach a decade at Brunton Park

Carlisle United's long-serving defender Peter Murphy has signed a new contract to stay at the club until 2011. Murphy joined the Cumbrians from Blackburn Rovers in 2001 and has made in excess of 300 appearances for the League One side. He missed three months earlier this season through injury and Carlisle boss Greg Abbott is happy Murphy will be staying at Brunton Park. "Peter is an excellent professional who has shown in recent weeks just how important he can be to the side," Abbott told the News & Star. "He is widely acknowledged throughout the club as a really hard worker, and that comes through in the way he plays on a Saturday. "I'm delighted that he has decided that he will continue to do his bit for us."
