Bradford boss Stuart McCall has distanced himself from rumours claiming he is set to move for Andy Bishop.
The Bury striker is much sought at present, having rejected the offer of a new contract at Gigg Lane.
A consistent scorer in the lower leagues, he is expected to be on the move during the January transfer window.
However, McCall, who admits to enquiring as to Bishop's position, insists he will not be pursuing his interest in the 26-year-old.
"I can categorically state that we have not made any offer or bid for Bishop," the Scot told the
Telegraph & Argus.
"I'm led to believe that Bury made him a fantastic offer, far and away above what our top wage earner is on. And obviously there would be a transfer fee on top of that, so it's out of the question."
While Bishop seems destined to depart the Shakers in the near future, the League Two outfit have refused to give up hope on the possibility of persuading the highly-rated striker to stay.
No bids
"We have had no bids," club director Ian Harrop told the
Bury Times.
"It's a wait-and-see scenario for us at the moment.
"We had a meeting with Andy on Monday, and he appreciates that we have offered him the best possible package we can put together, but it is not necessarily a financial thing.
"Andy may be looking at playing at a higher level."
Bury boss Alan Knill admits Bishop would need to move up the football pyramid in order to get a better offer than that already on the table.
"I think he just wants more time to think about it. He's worked hard to put himself in a good position," he said.
"I don't think there's many teams, definitely in our league, that could match the offer we've put to him."
