Oldham have confirmed that young defender Paul Black has not broken his ankle.
The highly-rated 18-year-old is currently on loan at Barrow and was rushed to hospital on Monday after a training ground clash.
But X-rays have revealed that there is no fracture and Oldham head physio Marc Czuczman will now assess him.
Oldham are also assessing goalkeeper Mark Crossley.
The veteran goalkeeper is struggling with a back injury and he is a doubt for Saturday's clash with promotion rivals Leicester.
"He was struggling and we'll have to see how it goes. Hopefully it won't be too serious," he said.
Summer signing Greg Fleming is on stand-by for his league debut should Crossley not make it.
