Fulham have snapped up Julian Gray from Coventry City and released Alexei Smertin.

Cottagers also cancel Smertin's contract

Fulham have snapped up Julian Gray from Coventry City and released Alexei Smertin. Skysports.com confirmed earlier on deadline day that Gray had been lined up for a move to Craven Cottage. The Premier League club have now announced that the winger has signed on a season-long loan deal. Gray joined Coventry 12 months ago from Birmingham City and scored four goals in 33 appearances during his time at the Ricoh Arena. He was in the final year of his Coventry contract and will be looking to prove to Fulham boss Roy Hodgson that he is worthy of a permanent deal. Meanwhile, the Cottagers have confirmed that Russian midfielder Smertin's contract has been cancelled by mutual consent. Hodgson had admitted Smertin was free to leave the club, but had struggled to find any takers for the former Chelsea man.
