Carlisle United defender Josh Gowling has been ruled out for at least a month with a broken nose.

Gowling, who moved to Brunton Park earlier in the summer, picked up the injury during Carlisle's reserve-team fixture with Rochdale on Monday.

He now faces a spell on the sidelines and Carlisle's reserve-team coach Eric Kinder admits it is bad timing for the former Bournemouth stopper.

"We had an unfortunate injury to Josh Gowling early on," Kinder told the club's official website.

"It looks as though he will be out for between four-to-six weeks with a broken nose.

"It has been an absolute disaster for Josh, he is on the fringes of the first team and now he's going to miss between four-to-six weeks."

Gowling, who signed a two-year contract with John Ward's side, had been an unused substitute in Carlisle's opening three matches of the season.
