Marc Richards is ready to sign a new contract at Port Vale after rejecting two offers from Cheltenham Town.
The striker had been given permission to speak to Cheltenham earlier in the week regarding a return to League One.
However, Richards admits he is tempted by the chance to extend his stay at Vale Park until 2010.
"I've had two offers from Cheltenham and both have been rejected," Richards told The Sentinel.
"Port Vale have come back to me with a contract offer, which is a one-year extension, and I'm really excited about it.
"I've always said I don't want to leave the club, which is fantastic, and I'm looking to stay longer.
"The thought of playing in League One was appealing, but it had to be the right move.
"I'm happy with Vale's offer and there are just a few little things that need to be sorted out.
"It's not a decision I'm taking lightly because I'm at an important stage of my career."
