Training ground accident rules out Oldham striker

Oldham striker Lee Hughes is to miss the start of the season after sustaining an injury to his little toe. The 31-year-old was involved in an accidental collision with team-mate Sean Gregan in training. Further scans have revealed an undisplaced fracture to the toe which is likely to rule him out for up to two weeks and he has now been pencilled in for a return in mid-August. Oldham kick-off their League One campaign against Millwall on 9th August. However, there was some good news for the Latics as John Thompson and Kieran Lee both came through 45 minutes unscathed in the 3-1 defeat to Barrow on Wednesday.
