Stags scupper Soutar switch

Derek Soutar's proposed move to Hartlepool appears to have encountered irreconcilable difficulties.

Keeper left in limbo ahead of new season

Derek Soutar's proposed move to Hartlepool appears to have encountered irreconcilable difficulties. The former Aberdeen keeper had looked set to complete a move to the League One side after impressing during a trial period with the North East club. He featured in pre-season friendly fixtures against Morton and Falkirk and looked comfortable during both contests. Unfortunately, Pools need to move a keeper on in order to bring Soutar in and have so far failed in their efforts to do. Jan Budtz was all set to join Blue Square Premier outfit Mansfield on a season-long loan, but the Stags pulled out at the last minute.

Good feeling

That now leaves Soutar in limbo, facing an uncertain future in which he does not have a club ahead of the new season. "Danny Wilson was really keen but he needed to get other things done first to free up space in his squad," the 27-year-old told The Press and Journal. "Unfortunately something happened at the last minute so it doesn't look like it's going to happen. "It's disappointing because things went really well during the trial and I had a good feeling about the place."
