City boss ends trial of former Manchester United winger

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has ended his interest in former Manchester United winger Michael Barnes. The 20-year-old has spent much of pre-season on trial at Ashton Gate and featured in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Forest Green. But Johnson has decided that the winger has not done enough to earn a spot on the club's forthcoming trip to Portugal. "We thank Michael for spending time with us but we've told him that at the moment there isn't an opportunity for him here," Johnson told the club's official website. "We'll keep an eye on his progress wherever he ends up."
