Stockport County have signed highly-rated goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams from Crewe.
The Wales Under-21 international was out of contract at Crewe and negotiations are still ongoing between the two clubs over a compensation fee.
If an agreement cannot be reached the matter may have to be settled by a Football League tribunal.
Hatters manager Jim Gannon is nevertheless delighted to have picked up a player who had been linked with clubs in the Premier League and Championship.
Despite not making a senior appearance for Crewe, Fon Williams has made a name for himself with his performances at international level.
"Owain's got a good profile," Gannon told the club's official website.
"He's over six foot tall, he's athletic, he's lean and he moves well.
"He feels capable of being the No.1, so we'll see how he does over pre-season."
Gannon is also closing in on a couple of other deals and hopes to push them through over the next 24 hours.
He said: "I'm waiting to hear later today on two deals that will bring us a striker and a goalscoring central midfielder."
