Veteran defender extends his stay at Whaddon Road

Cheltenham defender Alan Wright has penned a new one-year contract with the League One club. The veteran full-back joined the Robins on a short-term deal in October and went on to make 35 appearances during the course of the season. The 36-year-old is the sixth out-of-contract player to commit their future to the club this summer, and Keith Downing has expressed his pleasure at the news that the former Aston Villa man has decided to stay. "I'm delighted that Alan has re-signed for us," the Robins boss told the club's official website. "He had a massive influence on us last year, not just as a player but also in terms of his vast experience in the game. "If we are going to become established at League One level then people like Alan Wright are very much going to be part of it. "I've always stated that a player is only as old as he feels."
