Oldham Athletic boss John Sheridan has signed Port Vale midfielder Daniel Whitaker on a free transfer.
The Valiants were keen to retain the 27-year-old following relegation to League Two last season, but have now lost his services.
Whitaker, who has become Oldham's fifth signing of the summer, has signed a two-year contract at Boundary Park.
The former Macclesfield man joined Vale in the summer of 2006 having made 185 appearances for the Silkmen, scoring 32 goals.
Whitaker will now be hoping to help Oldham build on their solid 2007/08 campaign where they finished just outside the play-off positions.
